The Maigatari Export Processing Zone
The Maigatari Export Processing Zone is a border free zone located at Maigatari town, along the Nigeria-Niger border, and is managed by the Jigawa State government. The strategic location of Maigatari town is due to the historical livestock market, one of the largest in sub-Saharan Africa, and the town serving as a trans-shipment point along the ancient Trans-Saharan trade route.
The export free zone is meant to provide easy access to Republic of the Niger and other landlocked countries in the West African subregion, and promote the development of export-oriented activities. It has 11 warehouses, banking facilities, hotel accommodation, a container terminal and security services. Presently, there are 5 companies operating on location, namely; Fine Baby Garment Company, Inter Product Link Limited, WACOT Limited, Jigawa Investment and Property Development Company and Obasanjo Farms Limited.
